Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst (1814-1865) was a German violinist and composer who was known for his virtuosic skills on the violin. He began playing the violin at a young age and quickly gained recognition for his talent. He toured extensively throughout Europe and was a favorite of many royal courts.
Ernst was also a prolific composer and wrote many works for the violin, including concertos, sonatas, and etudes. His playing and compositions emphasized technical proficiency and virtuosity, and he often incorporated challenging techniques into his music.
Ernst's most famous work is his "Last Rose of Summer" variations, which is based on an Irish folk song. He died at the age of 51 in Nice, France, and is remembered as one of the greatest violinists of the 19th century.
